Spring Car Maintenance Tips for North Jackson, Ohio Drivers

‘If it ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix it’ is the Gamble of Fools

For many people, whether it’s at home, in the office or yard, spring serves as a great time to service, clean, enhance and begin anew. The same can – and should – apply to the vehicle you drive.

Too often, drivers take the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it mentality.” That’s all fine and good until, well, something breaks as a result of that mentality. With as much time, money and sweat equity as you put into getting that new Chevrolet or other vehicle, a mere fraction of that time and money is necessary to stay true to preventative spring car care tips.

For maintenance tips for your Chevrolet in the spring, please keep reading. Then, for those preventative measures you may need help with, we invite you to experience the state-of-the-art service center at Spitzer Chevrolet Lordstown.

Easy Tips to Stay Charged with a Healthy Chevrolet Car Battery

One sure-fire way to get a North Jackson driver’s heart to sink or temperature to rise is by trying to start the car….and, get nothing. A good car battery will last you a long time, longer if properly cared off. And, the good news is that it doesn’t take much. Periodic check-ups of its functionality are essential to maximizing the life of your car battery.

Since most everything about your Chevrolet relies on a healthy battery. Over time, it can lose some of the juice it once delivered. It doesn’t take long to check your car battery’s connections and components. Leaks and/or corrosion should serve as a warning to get the battery checked out.

For all the parts of your Chevy spring maintenance you’re not comfortable with taking on yourself, better to play it safe than sorry. At the Spitzer Chevrolet Lordstown service center, we’d gladly perform a diagnostic test to ensure the health and well-being of your vehicle’s battery.

From Oil and Other Fluids, Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

When under the hood of your Chevy checking the battery, it’s also a good idea to check oil levels. Without good clean oil running through the veins of your vehicle, you run a serious risk of much bigger – and more costly – problems.

Good, clean oil is essential in that it keeps all parts of the engine lubricated. With a lot of moving parts, with much action being metal-on-metal, fluid operation is the direct result of good oil. Barring an oil leak, your Chevrolet or other vehicle should never run out of oil, but it does collect dirty, metal shards and other debris which can adversely affect your engine over time. Depending on the vehicle you drive, oil changes are recommended 3,000-4,000 miles.

As spring serves as the precursor to warmer summer months, vehicles naturally heat up and are forced to work even harder. That puts an even significance on the role of good, clean oil.

When checking your oil, it’s a good idea to also check all fluid levels. From engine coolant to windshield wiper fluid, part of that routine maintenance should include all things liquid. Keep that vehicle hydrated across all levels.

Additional Checklist Items for that Spring Car Maintenance

In addition to battery conditions and fluid levels, there are several other parts of your Chevy which should be top of mind when tackling that spring car maintenance. Here’s a list of some of the other things to look into:

  • Tires. Rotate them, have alignment/suspension check and check air pressure. Tire pressure fluctuates depending on the weather. If you take advantage of winter tires, now is the time to switch back.
  • Wiper blades. Over time, the effectiveness wears down. In most parts of the country, spring and summer result in more frequent showers. Be prepared with good windshield wiper blades. They’re not costly and are easy to install.
  • Filters. With water weather moving in, you’ll want to take advantage of your Chevy’s AC unit. Over time, filters collect dust which can result in blockages and/or unclean air. Your owner’s manual will detail recommended intervals to change filters.
  • Belts and hoses.
  • Driver-assistance features. These days, many vehicles are equipped with loads of safety or driver-assist features. Ideally, you’ll never need to rely on things like air bags or automatic emergency braking. But, should the time ever come to need it, you’ll want to make sure they operate as intended. At the Spitzer Chevrolet Lordstown service center, we are able to assist with that.
  • For more information on how to keep your vehicle in a safe operating mode, take a few minutes this spring to check things out. As spring is a time for many families to take road trips, now is the perfect time to keep your vehicle running like new and in a safe manner.

For help with any or all of your spring car maintenance, don’t hesitate to reach out to Spitzer Chevrolet Lordstown.
